July 2 and August 16

What's About?:

This is an annual bareback horse race in Siena – Palio di Provenzano! Held twice in the year- 2 July and 16th August.

The run is to celebrate the holy apparition of the Virgin Mary near the old houses belonged to Provenzano Salvani. Very first run of Palio happened on August 16, 1656 to honour that holy apparition that was called “Madonna di Provenzano” at first.

Palio race takes place twice a year in Siena’s main medieval square – piazza del Campo. For centuries this race has been a subject for a competition among the city’s districts, and named as contrade. So there are ten riders – one ride in one city district (one”contrada”)- one of Siena’s 17 districts.

By the way, this festival is arguably considered by activists as a cruel event for its brutal exploitation of horses. Horses not only suffer greatly but also can die on the race. Based on the race statistics – one dead horse per year on average. More info

June 24 - July 10

What's About?:

Takes two-weekend of summer to join this concert in London. Hyde Park is a major park in Central London and the largest of four Royal Parks – often called as heart of London’s Royal Park, so besides the concert you might as well just come to see the park😄. On this concert/festival you may dance to the pop, rock and hip-hop songs : rock band like The Rolling Stones, Bruno Mars, and more… More info.

Bad news for those who would want to bring your folding chair with – its an open air standing tickets only event… So no seats, and guess they were banned a few years ago after they became a hazard on the concert – fighting for a chair I bet…

And it’s not all – any food, drink that you could take form home or any other place outside is ‘no go’ as this event also has its own small food/drinks court where you can buy average priced victuals…but indeed some might not be so “average” priced. Oh well, what you can bring with, surprisingly, is a rain poncho and kind of a bin liner to sit on (nothing big like a cushion).

Remember some of the restrictions  –  under age of 16 will not be permitted on site or must be accompanied by an adult 18 years or over.

July 21 - 23

What's About?:

This festival/competition  apparently started in 1998  and involves, you wont believe – bodypainting…Once every year people could witness this festival which allures participants, artists from about 50 nations around the world to the place in Klagenfurt, Austria(before 2017 this competition used to be held in Pörtschach on lake Wörthersee but also Austria).

Yeah this event is by itself attracts many thousands spectators and i wont ask why as it must be very entertaining to see how artists would fight with their brushes by colouring faces and other body parts of models in 12 categories –  airbrushing, team bodypainting, and special effects are the coolest.

You can spend there the whole day form 10 am till midnight. Food and drinks you can also buy there. Festivals will last for 3 days and there are different value tickets from 25 Euro (first day ticket) to 369 Euro (VIP Gold 3 days ticket). More info

Bastille Day, France

July 14

What's About?:

If you know historical side of France you must know this Bastille Day – the start of French Revolution.  Back in 1789 on 14th of July a french crowd (predominantly poor) stormed the Bastille, which was known as a fortress where political prisoners were held. This demolition of a fortress for prisoners further marked as the start of the French Revolution and the end of the French monarchy.

People often ask why did it happen? The raising dissonance between the French citizens and swelling aggression towards the ruling monarchy are the main reasons according to historical documents. By experts, Bastile was stormed to free certain prisoners and in search of ammunition. Bastille, as it was traditionally a fortress in which political prisoners were held. After all the decision to storm the castle as the call for liberty, equality, and a more democratic form of government away from ancient regime. And the outcomes of this – Bastile was destroyed and monarchy was not only abolished but publicly humiliated by executing the last Royal family –  beheading the king Louis XVI and his wife Marie-Antoinette on the guillotine in 1793 for treason, just a bit of historical facts…

Today, this is the holiday to celebrate the unity among French and the way of life in France. So if this is not the best day to spend with loved ones, picnicking on the gardens admiring fireworks over Eiffel tower than I know nothing about French culture…

July 18

What's About?:

Need an ocean day? Here you go – the “Ocean/Sea Day” festival in Japan. Since 1996 it is a Japanese national holiday (celebrated on 3rd Monday in July) to show gratitude to the ocean as an important aspect in all lives of a marine nation.

What a good excuse to spend all day at the beach!

Africa

July 12

What's About?:

This is not annual festival and happens only once in every two years for Africans and people of African descent. From 1992 this festival born on the idea to promote and boost unity of the  African continent’s inhabitants. Celebrated by traditional drumming and dancing😁.

This Pan-African Festival held in Ghana’s Cape Coast which is, perhaps, country’s most historic place, a World Heritage Site, home to the Cape Coast Castle, with the Gulf of Guinea on the south.

So if you would be interested more in historical side of the country then you would like to know first that Ghana Cape Coast is known for its former times of transatlantic slave trade. Here Swedish built the Coast Castle (in 17th century) which is a large whitewashed fort, used by the British as a prison for slaves. Nowadays, people the Castle is a  Museum that has exhibits on pre-colonial local history, the slave trade and cultural crafts.

OCEANIA

July 12

What's About?:

Hooray! Now we can use beer for another reason! I wonder how this festival started …hmm guessing one hammered man tried to make a boat out of his empty beer cans. I didnt find anything that would confirm this version but anyway since 1974 the Darwin Beer Can Regatta has presented a way how to recycle aluminum beer cans.

Participants use their creativity to craft boats from empty beer and soda cans (plus they can use milk cartons) and take it to the sea competing with other teams. Apparently this event can be considered as a sport event and it has its own judges. Mark my words – one day it will be an Olympic sport😬. The winner takes it all – a cash prize… and the”beer boatsman” title.

This regatta is held in Northern Territory, Australia at Mindil Beach. More info

North America

July 20 – Portugal(Team Macedos Pirotecnia show)

July 24 – Malaysia (Team Pyro TACT)

There is another reason for different teams to perform on such festival is to improve their skills and design new effects for the fireworks industry.
